On 26 January 2022 the SCO Secretariat hosted SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming's meeting with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the People's Republic of China Akram Zeynalli.
During the meeting, the prospects for promoting Azerbaijan's cooperation with the SCO were discussed, including opportunities provided by the institute of SCO dialogue partners (Azerbaijan has dialogue partner status). It was noted that a common understanding that increasing contact between the SCO Secretariat and the embassies of the dialogue partner states was necessary.
Mr Zeynalli emphasised the relevance of Azerbaijan's application to obtain observer status at the SCO and its interest in developing mutually beneficial cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
The SCO Secretary-General reaffirmed the Secretariat's interest in a constant dialogue with the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in China.
