On 20 January 2022, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming had a meeting at the SCO Secretariat with Charge d'Affaires ad Interim of the Republic of Uzbekistan in China Batyr Tursunov.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General noted that the SCO's growing regional and global role meant that the Secretariat was faced with important tasks whose implementation required continued enhancement of the SCO mechanisms.
Charge d'Affaires Tursunov handed to Secretary-General Zhang Ming a congratulatory message from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov on the occasion of taking office.
The Uzbekistani diplomat spoke about the priorities of Uzbekistan's SCO chairmanship, the planned events and preparations for the next meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State, scheduled to be held in September 2022 in Uzbekistan.
He expressed certainty the joint effort would help strengthen multilateral cooperation for the timely implementation of SCO member states' initiatives.
The SCO Secretary-General stressed that the SCO Secretariat was ready to render comprehensive support to the endeavour to organise the events and expressed hope for further close cooperation between the SCO Secretariat and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere.
