During his visit to Tajikistan on 13 July 2021, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov had a meeting with Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Chairman of the SCO Heads of State Council.
"Over a period of the past 20 years, the SCO has taken its place among some of the most respected international organisations and has become a major factor of security and sustainable development in the region," President Rahmon pointed out. He added that Tajikistan was implementing a comprehensive programme as part of its SCO chairmanship in order to promote common tasks and goals and also to strengthen cooperation in all the main spheres. It is also doing its best to ensure the success of the SCO Heads of State Council meeting, scheduled to take place in Dushanbe in September 2021.

Emomali Rahmon outlined the main security and stability priorities in the SCO space and shared his views on the current international and regional agenda.
SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov thanked the President of Tajikistan for meeting with him and updated him on the efforts being made by the SCO Secretariat and other bodies to coordinate the documents being drafted for the upcoming Dushanbe summit and to promote the related initiatives of the SCO member states.
"The Republic of Tajikistan has been making a major contribution to the development and prosperity of the SCO since it was established. The SCO member states attach great importance to the initiatives Tajikistan has advanced within the framework of its SCO chairmanship to strengthen the mutually beneficial multifaceted cooperation of the SCO member states," Vladimir Norov pointed out.

The sides discussed the member states' cooperation aimed at strengthening regional security, the complicated political situation in Afghanistan, stronger protection of the Tajik-Afghan border, and coordinated efforts against current threats and challenges, namely terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, cybercrime and transnational organised crime.
The conversation was held in a friendly atmosphere.
The Republic of Tajikistan assumed the SCO chairmanship following the SCO Heads of State Council meeting held on 10 November 2020. During its chairmanship, the organisation will celebrate its anniversary under the motto Twenty Years of the SCO: Cooperation for Stability and Prosperity.
