On 21-23 June 2021, Kazakhstan chaired a meeting of members of the Commission of Senior Officials in Charge of Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) via videoconference.
The meeting's agenda was formulated in the context of the preparations for the Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's Ministers of Foreign Economy and Foreign Trade, scheduled for 24 September 2021 in Nur-Sultan.
The participants exchanged opinions on the COVID-19 response efforts, discussed the draft plan of SCO member states' joint measures to overcome the pandemic's negative socio-economic consequences for national economies. They coordinated in general the draft bank of best solutions in the field of development of remote territories (Action Plan) of the SCO member states.
A long-term cooperation plan for analysing projects of the SCO Economic Forum's Concept and the Statement by SCO Member States on the Development of Green Trade was charted.
The sides also shared views on the draft Statement by SCO Ministers of Foreign Economy and Foreign Trade, as regards efforts to resume and facilitate sustainable economic growth, as well as a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation on economic zones.
Members of the Commission of Senior Officials in Charge of Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) are subordinated to the Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's Ministers of Foreign Economy and Foreign Trade. Their goal is to implement provisions of the Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO Member States.
The Commission's members coordinate the activities of ad hoc working groups for expanding the transit potential, for facilitating investment, e-commerce, modern information and telecommunications technologies and for simplifying trade and customs cooperation.
