On May 15, 2021, over 20 young representatives from China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus took part in the Friendly Chess Tournament and Culinary Exchange. The event took place at the China International Youth Exchange Center in Beijing.
The event consisted of two parts, a friendly chess tournament and a culinary experience of making dumplings together with families.
The chess tournament was attended by 22 participants aged 6 to 15 years old, who have played five rounds together.
After the tournament, the young participants, together with their families, became chefs and made dumplings in a friendly atmosphere. Participants also played folk games, learning about cultures of each other countries. After the event, parents and participants thanked the organizers and expressed their desire to participate in the future similar events.
The event was organized jointly by the China International Youth Exchange Center and SCOLAR Network, and coorganized by China Youth Research (Beijing) Education Technology Company and Beijing Fangcunjian Chess Club. The organizers expressed that this event gave young friends an opportunity to learn about the culture and customs of other SCO countries, and at the same time established a bridge of friendship between SCO chess players, which will help to better carry forward the "Shanghai Spirit". Through such initiatives we are cultivating future cross-cultural ambassadors and will continue to bring more valuable activities in the future.
