On 25 January 2021, chaired by the Kazakhstani side, a SCO meeting was held to discuss the draft Concept for Creating the SCO Technology Parks Pool (Concept).
The event involved experts in the field of digitalisation and innovative technologies from the SCO member states.
During the gathering, the participants had an article-by-article discussion of the draft Concept and agreed to provide comments on the reserved provisions of the draft document by 19 March 2021.
The next meeting will take place on 1 April 2021 via videoconference.
 
The initiative to create the Technology Parks Pool was announced at the SCO Summit in 2019 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. Its goal is to facilitate the practical implementation of the Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO Member States until 2035, the Concept of Cooperation of the SCO Member States on Digitalisation and Information and Communication Technologies, as well as other important documents in the field of SCO innovative activity.
The aim of the pool is to build an innovative ecosystem of the SCO member states, create favourable conditions for establishing full-fledged relationships with leading technology companies, innovation and research parks of the SCO member states for the implementation of innovative projects, creating small and medium-sized businesses with the participation of young people from the SCO countries, and to attract young and talented specialists of the region.
The creation of a system based on the integration of scientific, educational and industrial spheres in the SCO countries will contribute to the creation of competitive high-tech products, improve the structure of exports by increasing the share of innovative products and reducing raw materials orientation, as well as raise the status of countries in the global technology market.
