On 20 November, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Hu Hong on the sidelines of the fifth international Understanding China Conference 2020.
Vladimir Norov thanked Hu Hong for his hospitality and invitation to the event, and briefed him on the SCO's current activities.
The Secretary-General said that the heads of the SCO member states proposed new targets for cooperation in a variety of areas within the SCO at its summit that concluded on 10 November. The SCO has established effective cooperation with many provinces and cities in China. Guangzhou is a key city of the Belt and Road Initiative with its developed infrastructure, comprehensive industrial planning and excellent business environment. It is situated in China's most developed economic region and offers certain advantages for cooperation with the SCO.
Hu Hong pointed out that Guangzhou attaches great importance to cooperation with the SCO and will work hard to implement the initiatives introduced by President Xi Jinping within the SCO. Guangzhou has its merits for cooperation with the SCO in the economy, science, technology and industry. To this end, the city administration will use the successful experience of other Chinese cities' interaction with the SCO and actively develop cooperation within it.
