On 18 September the SCO Secretariat held a presentation on the Demonstration Zone for China-SCO regional trade and economic cooperation project (Qingdao, Shandong province).
The event was attended by permanent representatives of the SCO member states at its Secretariat, representatives of the observers and dialogue partners, and heads of trade missions as well as economic advisors to the SCO family embassies.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General on economic and humanitarian issues Sherali Saidamir Jonon addressed the participants on behalf of the Secretary-General. He pointed out the achievements made by the Qingdao Government in setting up the China-SCO Demonstration Zone. He stressed that the presentation could pave the way to enhance trade and economic cooperation throughout the entire SCO space and the zone's platform would serve as the basis for bilateral investment and innovation in order to develop industry and expand mutually beneficial trade in the SCO family of countries.
The participants listened to remarks by Chairman of the SCO-China Demonstration Zone's Management Board and Permanent Committee member of the Qingdao City Party Committee Liu Jianjun and Deputy Chairman of the SCO-China Demonstration Zone's Management Board Xiang Zhiqiang.
President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping declared the Chinese Government's support for the establishment in Qingdao of a Demonstration Zone for SCO-China local trade and economic cooperation at the 18th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council on 10 June 2018.
