On 13 ̶ 15 August 2020, a SCO Secretariat delegation headed by Deputy SCO Secretary-General Sherali Jonon travelled on business to Chongqing.
Delegation members visited the High Technology Park and the International Cooperation Centre in the Liangjiang New Area, a freight port and the Goyuan Logistics Park. They met with representatives of the city administration, the Liangjiang New Area and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government in Chongqing.
Mr Jonon met with Deputy Mayor of Chongqing Li Bo, Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Duan Chenggang, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in Liangjiang New Area Qing Shubing, Head of the Chongqing Municipal Committee for Development of Tourism and Culture Qing Dinbo and Director-General of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office Zhang Yunyu.
They discussed the implementation of multilateral cooperation projects between the Liangjiang New Area, SCO member states and the SCO Business Council and exchanged opinions on trade matters, including e-commerce, as well as transport and logistics, education, tourism, culture, innovations and high technologies.
Following the meeting, the Liangjiang New Area's administrators will submit a cooperation development programme to the SCO Secretariat. The document aims to expand cooperation between the Liangjiang New Area and the multi-role trade and economic cooperation platform with the SCO Secretariat.
