OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger has written a letter to SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov, in which he thanked the SCO for its support to the OSCE and its member countries in the fight against the coronavirus infection and for addressing the problems of peace and stability in the region.
He stressed the importance of the effective multilateral and interagency cooperation and confirmed that the organisation was fully committed to further expanding collaboration with other international and regional partners. In this context, he noted with satisfaction that the SCO and the OSCE secretariats maintained regular contacts dedicated to combating COVID-19.
"This crisis demonstrates the need for a strong and coordinated political response directed at reducing the uncertainty and supporting the political stability based on an effective administration, rule of law, and respect for human rights and freedoms. We also need to work together to promote the political cohesion and to take steps towards stabilisation and closer economic cooperation: all of this will strengthen our common security," says the letter.
In conclusion, Mr Greminger suggested that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation continue to participate in jointly organised events.
