At the invitation of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on 16 December 2019 an SCO Observer Mission began its work to observe the preparations and the organisation of the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes (councils).
The mission is led by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Xie Xiaoyong.
The mission is comprised of 19 observers, including officials from SCO legislative, executive and electoral bodies as well as the SCO Secretariat.
Members of the mission will be observing elections in six cities: Tashkent, Andijan, Bukhara, Kokand, Namangan and Samarkand, as well as towns and villages in the Tashkent, Andijan, Bukhara, Fergana, Namangan and Samarkand regions.
The SCO mission will operate in Uzbekistan on 16-23 December 2019 in accordance with the Regulations on the SCO Observer Mission at Presidential and/or Parliamentary Elections and Referendums, dated 15 May 2006.
