On 20-22 November 2019, Taiyuan (Shanxi Province) hosted the international conference "SCO: Towards community of common destiny, cultural dimension" organised by the China Academy of Art (CAA), the Institute of East European, Russian and Central Asian Studies (IEERCAS) and the People's Government of Shanxi Province, with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of China.
The conference was attended by representatives of the embassies of the SCO member states (Kazakhstan and Tajikistan), experts from Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, art historians, theatre workers, artists, and musicians.
SCO Secretariat Advisor Vladimir Zakharov acquainted those present with the welcome message from SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov, spoke about the development of humanitarian cooperation within the Organisation and the main aspects of working with the youth, and stressed the importance of deepening contacts between cultural figures and between SCO research centres.
The speakers focused on the comprehensive aspects of cooperation in culture, science, education, and the development of creative contacts between cultural figures of the SCO member states.
The organisers noted that they wanted to hold the conference annually, to expand the number of its participants and inform their colleagues about its contents. The CAA leadership also announced that its creative workers were ready to participate in events organised by the SCO Secretariat.
