On 30 August, an exhibition of works by artists from SCO member states opened at the National Art Museum of China. The opening ceremony was attended by heads of Chinese creative associations, artists and art critics, as well as the ambassadors from 30 countries accredited to the People's Republic of China.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Akkoshkarov delivered greetings from SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov in which Mr Norov thanked the management of the National Art Museum of China, the organisers of the 8th Beijing International Art Biennale and the SCO modern art exhibition for the invitation to attend the opening of the exhibition dedicated to works by SCO artists.
Vladimir Norov's message noted that art brings nations together, introduces them to the history, culture, architecture and wildlife of various countries, helps them to better understand the mentality and traditions of other peoples, and serves the noble cause of peace and mutual understanding.
The Secretary-General expressed his deep appreciation of the China Artists Association for initiating the exhibition of works of art from SCO states timed for a landmark date, the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. "This is a sign of deep respect for our nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation," Vladimir Norov pointed out in his message.
The Secretary-General stressed that the exhibits were carefully selected and reflect not only top-level artistic skills but also serve as a unique feast from SCO artists for Chinese and foreign exhibition visitors. They highlight an optimistic outlook on life and friendly feelings for China.
Vladimir Norov assured the guests at the event that the SCO places special emphasis on cultural and humanitarian cooperation, makes efforts to encourage contacts between cultural workers and artists from various fields, and facilitates cultural and artistic exchanges. For the Organisation these initiatives are essential for more profound understanding between the SCO countries and their stronger friendship.
