On 12 August, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with Chairman of the Executive Committee and Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergei Lebedev in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan's tourist capital.
Vladimir Norov thanked his counterpart for the invitation to the CIS summit in Ashgabat, to be held on 11 October, and told him in detail about the outcome of the SCO Bishkek summit and the priorities of Russia's SCO presidency.
The officials exchanged information on the current and future plans of their organisations in such areas as security and countering traditional and new challenges and threats, trade and economic interaction, as well as cooperation in culture and the humanitarian spheres.
In discussing further development of cooperation between the SCO and CIS, they formulated a number of important and interesting proposals and initiatives, including on the preparation of joint events.
During the conversation, Mr Norov and Mr Lebedev also discussed key issues of regional and global politics and exchanged opinions on the current situation in the region and the world.
The meeting was held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
The CIS and SCO are partner organisations interacting on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the CIS Executive Committee signed on 12 April 2005.
