From 1 to 5 July, Hohhot, the administrative centre of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China, was the venue of 2019 Inner Mongolia International Choral Week organised by the region's Government and the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM).
A new project, the SCO Youth Choir made up of 50 singers from 18 SCO member states, observers and dialogue partners performed in Hohhot on a par with well-known choirs from China and other countries as well.
Singers from the SCO Youth Choir who represent music schools came together for the first time just a week before their debut but thanks to their talent and experience under the guidance of such internationally-renowned choir masters as André de Quadros (Portugal) and Maria Goundorina (Russia), managed to present a rich repertoire of choral works by composers from the SCO family countries.
SCO Secretariat Advisor Vladimir Zakharov greeted the young singers on behalf of the SCO Secretary-General and thanked the Inner Mongolia Government and Emily Kuo Vong, President of the IFCM, for this successful initiative that attracted the attention of the youth musical community and became an exciting festivity for the young people.
