SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov attended the second Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security, opened in Beijing on 1 July 2019. The event was hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD).
The opening ceremony was also attended by Vice-Chair of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference CPAPD head Ma Biao and Head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Song Tao.
The high-level international experts attended four sessions to exchange opinions on global security in an age of major changes; new regional security elements; new technology and global security; as well as the evolution of the security and global security governance concept.
"Holding such a representative conference on international security is especially important considering the present complicated and turbulent international situation. The second Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament is a good platform for discussing new trends and current security problems, as well as for openly exchanging opinions on current topics and discussing measures concerning the strengthening of international and regional security and stability," Vladimir Norov noted.
The SCO Secretary-General spoke about the SCO efforts to combat new challenges and threats through close collaboration intended to formulate a comprehensive concept of security and a polycentric world order based on equal and indivisible security, mutual respect and consideration for the interests of all states, as well as commitment to the goals and principles of the UN Charter and international law.
The conference was attended by prominent politicians and academics from the SCO member states and representatives of research institutions from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Britain, Vietnam, Israel, South Korea, Norway, the US, Singapore, France, the Philippines, Sweden, Ethiopia, South Africa and Japan, plus a delegation from the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Secretariat.
The Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) is the largest civil society organisation in China comprising 25 large NGOs. It maintains ties with over 300 peace organisations and research centres in 90 countries. The CPAPD conducts research in the fields of disarmament, peace, security and sustainable development. The CPAPD hosts the Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security to bring together the efforts of international and national research, analytical and public platforms through joint analysis and discussions of global problems and possible solutions to them.
