SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with Shaanxi businessmen at the fourth Silk Road International Exposition in Xi'an on 12 May.
The meeting was also attended by deputy head of the Shaanxi Foreign Affairs Office Yao Jinchuan, Director of the Afghan Studies Centre at the Shaanxi Teacher Training University Su Xiaoyu and representatives of about 20 major companies and tourist agencies in Shaanxi province.
Yao Jinchuan told the Secretary-General in detail about Shaanxi's key economic indexes, production capacities and tourist potential.
Vladimir Norov thanked the businessmen for the meeting and noted that currently the SCO is not only a major transregional organisation that unites over 44 percent of the global population but also an association of countries with a giant market of global significance, enormous natural resources and a powerful manufacturing sector.
"Currently one of the primary objectives of the SCO is to create favourable conditions for expanding trade and economic cooperation. In this field the SCO is working closely with its Business Council and Interbank Consortium on specific plans and programmes to achieve substantial practical results from economic cooperation," said Vladimir Norov.
Representatives of the Shaanxi business community acquainted Vladimir Norov with their cooperation plans implemented in SCO member states as well as with the plans to deepen ties with partners in this area.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere.
