On 24 January 2019, Geneva hosted the second international seminar, The Role of Regional Organisations in Improving International Information Security and Stability. The seminar was organised by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and Georgetown University's Centre for Strategic and International Studies.
The event brought together SCO experts, as well as specialists in information security from over 15 countries and such international organisations as Interpol, ASEAN, the Arab League and the OSCE.
The seminar participants noted the key role played by regional approaches with respect to information security and improving trust between regions. They also emphasised the need to develop joint measures within the regional organisations in the area of information exchange, and to develop joint response measures that would improve the general situation in the information space.
They exchanged views on the activity of regional organisations and possible ways to expand regional cooperation.
UNIDIR is a specialised UN agency making research on security, disarmament and development at the national, regional and global levels.
The Centre for Strategic and International Studies of Georgetown University makes comprehensive research in the area of global politics and economy and is the organiser of the Global Leaders Forum, whose co-speaker is former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
