On 16 January 2019, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the People's Republic of China, Mohammad Keshavarz-Zadeh, at the SCO Headquarters in Beijing.
The SCO Secretary-General congratulated the Iranian diplomat on being appointed Iranian Ambassador to China and wished him success in the post.
During the conversation, the parties discussed issues of further strengthening practical cooperation within the SCO among the observer states.
The Iranian Ambassador to China conveyed to the SCO Secretary-General a letter from the Iranian Foreign Minister congratulating Mr Norov on his assumption of office.
The meeting was held in a friendly and warm atmosphere.
On 5 July 2005, the Islamic Republic of Iran was granted observer status at the SCO.
