On 25 November 2018, SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov arrived in New York City. Over a period of the next two days, he will have a meeting with UN Secretary General António Guterres, also attending a high-level joint event entitled UN and SCO: Cooperation for Stronger Peace, Security and Stability.
The agenda of the special joint event, due to be held as part of the Kyrgyz Republic's SCO Presidency, will include expanded cooperation between the SCO and the UN, the UN's specialised institutions and agencies, mostly in the field of countering traditional threats and new challenges undermining peace, security and stability.
The UN Headquarters is to host the event on 27 November 2018, with high-placed representatives of SCO member-states, observer states and SCO dialogue partners, the concerned UN member-countries, international and regional organisations taking part in it.
On 22 November 2016, the UN Headquarters in New York City hosted the first joint event, UN and SCO: Jointly Countering Challenges and Threats as part of the SCO Presidency of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Its results helped expand practical cooperation between the SCO and the UN, its specialised institutions and agencies.
