On 19 November 2018, SCO Deputy Secretary General Vladimir Potapenko met with Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Armida Alisjahbana, as part the SCO Secretariat delegation's participation in the 5th session of the ESCAP Committee on Transport in Bangkok.
Mr Potapenko conveyed SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov's congratulations to Ms Alisjahbana on taking office.
During their conversation, the officials discussed a set of issues related to the continuously evolving cooperation between the SCO and the ESCAP in the framework of the current Memorandum of Understanding. They also identified promising areas of cooperation between the two headquarters for next year. In this context, Armida Alisjahbana reaffirmed that the ESCAP Secretariat stands ready to continue assisting the SCO in all areas of cooperation.
The atmosphere of the meeting was positive and constructive.
The SCO and the UNESCAP have been partners since 2005.
