On 23 October 2018, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov received Professor Alexander Lukin, DSc (History) and Director of the Centre for East Asian and SCO Studies of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, at the SCO Headquarters in Beijing.
They discussed issues of joint work among the academic community in SCO member states within the SCO Forum, as well as current topics of applied scientific research on SCO issues.
"With the growth of knowledge-intensive political practice, the value of applied scientific research continues to increase steadily. In this context, we attach particular importance to the work of the SCO Forum as a key discussion platform where scientists and researchers can focus on topical issues of the SCO agenda," the SCO Secretary-General noted.
The Centre for East Asian and SCO Studies of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) is listed among the systemically important scientific research centres of the SCO Forum. Similar agencies of SCO member states have the status of the SCO's national research centres. The Forum's participants meet annually. National delegations are established by national centres and include the most influential experts on the subject of the SCO from various agencies of the concerned state.
SCO Forum co-founder Professor Alexander Lukin has written numerous monographs and research papers on SCO issues, as well as on East Asian and SCO studies.
