On 15 October 2018, Hangzhou, China, hosted the 4th international biennale themed Drawing the Silk Road, Strengthening Fraternal Feelings, as well as the 7th international art forum Drawing Shihu Lake.
Over 200 artists and art critics, as well as diplomats from the SCO member countries, attended the opening ceremony.
SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov sent a message of greetings to the event's participants, noting that over the 12 years of its existence, the international art forum had considerably strengthened ties between artists and the creative communities of the SCO countries. The large-scale events in Hangzhou, St Petersburg and Bishkek resulted in broadening the scope of cooperation.
Mr Alimov thanked the Hangzhou city administration and the local art academy for providing full-fledged support to the projects of artists representing countries of the SCO family. According to Mr Alimov, artists realise that they are in high demand, and they are ready to play an active part in spreading the ideas of the Shanghai Spirit.
The international art forum Drawing Shihu Lake is held since 2006. In 2012, it was supplemented by the international biennale Drawing the Silk Road, Strengthening Fraternal Feelings.
SCO Secretariat Adviser Vladimir Zakharov took part in the events.
