On 1 October, 2018, the delegation of the SCO Secretariat, headed by Deputy Secretary-General Vladimir Potapenko, held a number of meetings with high-ranking UN officials.
At the meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General and head of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov, the participants reaffirmed their interest in further consolidation of cooperation between the office and the SCO, in particular its Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS). They agreed to continue close cooperation in implementing the UN global anti-terrorist strategy and the recommendations of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

At the meeting with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca, the participants discussed a broad range of issues concerning SCO cooperation with UN agencies and structural subdivisions. They highly praised the SCO's cooperation with the Department of Political Affairs, the Office on Drugs and Crime and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). They supported stepping up practical cooperation with UNESCO and the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA). They also exchanged views on organising a series of joint events at the UN Headquarters in the forthcoming period.
The meeting with the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the UN Mirgul Moldoisayeva was devoted to the draft resolution of the 73rd UN General Assembly on cooperation between the UN and the SCO. The sides agreed to consider the possibility of holding a second high-level event in the framework of the adoption of another UN General Assembly resolution at the UN Headquarters in the second half of November.
At the meeting with Paivi Kannisto, UN Women Peace and Security Chief, a report was presented on the results of the first SCO Women's Forum held in Beijing on 16 May, 2018. The Forum created a new platform for the development of exchanges and cooperation among women, and for discussion of major issues regarding the promotion of gender equality and the sustainable development of society. Ms Kannisto welcomed the launch of the first SCO Women's Forum and expressed the readiness of her office to facilitate similar major events on gender issues in the SCO. UN representatives noted the possibility of including the first SCO Women's Forum in a forthcoming report by the UN Secretary-General on the role of women in maintaining peace and security in 2018.
