On 27 and 28 September 2018, the SCO Secretary-General is attending the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Dushanbe.
On 27 September 2018, ahead of the Council of Ministers meeting and the CIS summit, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov met with Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev in Dushanbe.
The officials discussed the main regional topics and exchanged views on current international political issues.
They also exchanged information on both organisations' current and future work plans, primarily in the context of further development of substantive cooperation between the SCO and the CIS in light of the decisions approved by the SCO leaders at the Qingdao summit and the decisions approved by the CIS leaders at the Dushanbe summit.
The CIS and the SCO are partner organisations and cooperate based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the CIS Executive Committee signed on 12 April 2005.
This is the fourth meeting between the heads of the SCO and CIS secretariats in 2018. The previous meeting was held in Qingdao, China, on the sidelines of the SCO summit on 9 June 2018.
