SCO focuses on international terrorism and extremism. Prosecutors General meet in Dushanbe

On 20 September 2018, the 16th Meeting of the Prosecutors General of the SCO member countries took place in Dushanbe under the chairmanship of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Tajikistan Rahmon Yusuf Ahmadzod.

The meeting was attended by Pinky Anand, Additional Solicitor General of India; Kairat Kozhamzharov, Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan; Zhang Jun, Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China; Otkurbek Jamshitov, Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan; Yury Chaika, Prosecutor General of Russia; Rahmon Yusuf Ahmadzod, Prosecutor General of Tajikistan; Otabek Murodov, Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan; Arshid Mehmood Kiani, Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan; Nurlan Akkoshkarov, SCO Deputy Secretary-General; and Jumakhon Giyesov, Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).

Also invited to the event were prosecutors general of the SCO observer states and dialogue partners, including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The President of the International Association of Prosecutors and Attorney General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attended as guests.

Those present at the meeting that focused on combating international terrorism and extremism, a major challenge to the modern world,

Discussed ways to intensify joint efforts against extremism and terrorism, eliminate contributory factors, preventing the use of the internet for extremist and terrorist purposes, exposing and investigating extremist and terrorist crimes and financing of terrorism, strengthening cooperation and mutual exchange of information on the problem.

The participants shared their countries' experience in combating the growing threat to security and interests of the SCO member states, and signed a protocol of intent to consolidate efforts against extremism and terrorism as well as transnational crimes that serve as a source of funding for terrorism, including illegal drug trafficking and human trafficking.

The participants also decided to facilitate information exchange on the persons involved in crimes of terrorist and extremist nature, on the practice of recognising certain parties, movements and organisations as terrorist and extremist, and to exchange relevant rulings of national courts or other competent authorities of the SCO member states.

They also confirmed the importance of expanding cooperation with prosecutors of the SCO observer states and dialogue partners, and to develop interaction with relevant bodies of regional and international organisations on countering terrorism, extremism and transnational organised crime.

The 17th Prosecutors General Meeting of the SCO member countries will take place in 2019 in the Kyrgyz Republic.
