On 18 September 2018, the fourth Meeting of Agriculture Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Member States was held in Bishkek.
The meeting was attended by India's Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Devesh Chaturvedi, Director of the Strategic Planning and Analysis Department at the Kazakhstani Ministry of Agriculture Saule Moldabayeva, Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurbek Murashev, Chief Agronomist of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture Ma Aiguo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Kyrgyzstan Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Deputy Director of the Cooperation Department at the Russian Ministry of Agriculture Ilya Gerashchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan Suhrob Khoja Olimzoda and Uzbekistani Deputy Minister of Agriculture Saidkamol Khodzhaev.
The participants in the meeting discussed the draft SCO Cooperation Programme on Food Security and agreed to sign it during the Meeting of the Council of SCO Heads of State to be held on 11-12 October, 2018, in Dushanbe. The adoption of this document will promote cooperation between the SCO member states in food security, including the development of legislation necessary for the SCO member states to cooperate, to upgrade national laws and to interact with international organisations, as well as to carry out information analysis and research in this sphere and to cooperate in expert training and skill improvement.
The participants have adopted the plan for 2018-2019 to implement the agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on cooperation in agriculture signed in Tashkent on 11 June 2010.
They also discussed the phytosanitary situation in the SCO member states.
