On 18 June 2018, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjiddin Muhriddin in Dushanbe.
The officials discussed the further development of interaction within the SCO and practical measures to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between the member states. They also exchanged opinions on the outcome of the SCO summit in Qingdao, China, which opened a new page in the organisation's development.
Rashid Alimov thanked Sirodjiddin Muhriddin for inviting SCO representatives to attend the High Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028. Mr Alimov said that this major event is an organic part of the series of conferences that have been held in Dushanbe since 2003 at the initiative of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and with support from the international community.
"I hope that conditions will be created at the Dushanbe venue so that mutually beneficial decisions on water management as well as sanitation at regional and global levels can be coordinated," Rashid Alimov said.
The Tajikistani Foreign Minister thanked the SCO Secretary-General and the SCO Secretariat for helping Tajikistan prepare for the upcoming meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council, which is scheduled to take place in Dushanbe in October 2018.
The meeting was held in a friendly and constructive manner.
SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov, who is visiting Dushanbe between 18 and 22 June 2018, will attend the High Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028. The event is being held by the Tajikistani Government and the UN to facilitate the International Decade for Action, which was approved by UN General Assembly Resolution 71/222 on 21 December 2016.
