On 9 June 2018, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov met with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Qingdao.
During the conversation, the officials discussed the comprehensive development of multifaceted cooperation in the SCO as well as practical steps to further promote mutual understanding and interaction between the member states.
"After the powerful and reputable south Asian states India and Pakistan joined the SCO, the Organisation became stronger, received new opportunities and expanded its potential," Mr Alimov noted.
"From its first days in the SCO, India has contributed a lot to developing multifaceted cooperation and strengthening the atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust," the Secretary-General noted.
"In addition, India is a country with a rich cultural heritage and traditions that form part of the SCO space's enormous wealth. In this context, we plan to hold a day of yoga in the SCO Secretariat on the eve of International Yoga Day, which has already attracted a lot of attention and many people who want to take part in it," Mr Alimov added.
The prime minister of India noted the Secretary-General's contribution to promoting cooperation in the framework of the SCO and thanked Rashid Alimov for a chance to discuss cooperation in the SCO.
Mr Modi added: "India will also contribute to the organisation's development."
"Your activity inspires us and for our part we plan to promote and strengthen this cooperation. We want the SCO to succeed and prosper," Mr Modi noted.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
