On 9 April 2018, the SCO Secretary-General held a working meeting with Mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalybov.
The officials discussed the SCO Observer Mission's activities in Baku and its surrounding areas.
"We attach special importance to the mission of our observers in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, since the city and its surrounding areas are home to the majority of Azerbaijan's voters," the SCO Secretary-General stressed.
"It is a big honour for us to receive the SCO Observer Mission in Baku. We will assist the SCO observers in every possible way," Hajibala Abutalybov noted. The SCO Observer Mission headed by the SCO Secretary-General has been at work in Azerbaijan since 5 April 2018.
The Mission's Headquarters are based in Baku.
Baku is the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is a major industrial, economic, scientific and technical hub of the South Caucasus, the largest port in the Caspian Sea and the biggest city in the Caucasus. The population of Baku and its surrounding areas is about five million people.
