On 5 April 2018, Rashid Alimov met with UN Under-Secretary-General and Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov on the sidelines of the 7th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS).
The sides discussed at length ways of practical cooperation between the UN and the SCO in combating international terrorism and curbing terrorist elements and their illegal activities with an emphasis on the need to step up mutual efforts on this important track that both organisations view as a priority.
Mr Voronkov accentuated the dynamic development of partnership between the UN and the SCO and lauded the SCO's consistent steps to create legal foundations for the anti-terror struggle, based on the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Mr Alimov informed the UN Under-Secretary-General about the preparations for the upcoming meeting of the SCO heads of state in Qingdao and pinpointed the historic significance of what has been dubbed Eurasia's first "Big Eight" summit.
"In June, the SCO leaders will meet in Qingdao for their first meeting in the eight-member format. Therefore, we attach special importance to the participation of the UN Secretary-General in this summit," Mr Alimov said.
The SCO Secretary-General also held brief talks with CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, OSCE Secretary-General Thomas Greminger and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer on the sidelines of MCIS.
