On 28 March 2018, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov arrived in Mongolia on a two-day official visit and met with Foreign Minister of Mongolia Damdin Tsogtbaatar.
The officials discussed matters related to cooperation between Mongolia and the SCO and exchanged opinions on the key questions concerning regional affairs.
Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar thanked SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov for his visit. He said: "Mongolia has been working together with the SCO in the capacity of an observer for many years now. We know the organisation very well, and we see that it is acting more energetically and is increasing the scope of its activities. The key part is mutual understanding as well as trust among the member states."
"We are interested in promoting cooperation with the SCO, and I think that there are questions of mutual concern on our agenda today," the Mongolian minister said.
"Mongolia is a fraternal country for all the SCO member states. It always tries to make a positive contribution to the strengthening of mutual understanding and trust on the key SCO venues. We highly appreciate Mongolia's participation in our joint efforts within the SCO," SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov said.
Mongolia was the first country to receive the observer status at the SCO in 2004. Mongolian leaders attend all the SCO high and top-level events.
