On September 21, 2017, a delegation of the SCO Secretariat headed by Deputy SCO Secretary General Mr Wang Kaiwen attended the international conference "Contemporary Electoral Trends in a Multipolar World" in Moscow. Ms Ella Pamfilova, Chairperson of the Russian Federation's Central Election Commission, supervised the event.
Representatives of election commissions from India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and the Philippines, UN representatives, senior officials from the international organisation Commonwealth of Independent States and the Association of Asian Election Authorities also attended the event.
During the conference, experts exchanged professional assessments on streamlining electoral trends and their influence on strengthening the electoral sovereignty of states, as well as experience in organising elections. Wide-scale experience and opinion exchanges allowed experts from various countries to compare notes as well as electoral practices in countries of the vast Eurasian region.
Russia's Central Election Commission suggested holding this international conference.
