On 15-18 September 2017, a meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators chaired by the Chinese party took place at the SCO Secretariat.
The meeting agenda focused on the issues related to the current activity of the SCO and the upcoming events to be held within the organisation.
National coordinators discussed the preparations for the 16th SCO Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) Council Meeting in the Russian Federation, as well as other events to be held in the second half of 2017.
Special attention was paid to the preparations for the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, which for the first time will be held in the eight-nation format on 20 September 2017 in New York as part of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
Meeting participants also exchanged opinions on the interaction of SCO member states in implementing the decisions of the SCO Heads of State Council meeting (on 9 June 2017 in Astana) related to strengthening stability and security in the SCO space.
The SCO Council of National Coordinators coordinates current SCO activities and ensures cooperation between the concerned ministries and agencies of the SCO member states.
The People's Republic of China will hold the rotating SCO presidency in 2017-2018.
